Compare the ingredients on your favorite store bought candles in your home. If they’re not made from soy wax, bees wax or a mixture of only vegetable based waxes they are likely not sustainable or good for the environment. Beyond the potential harm done in your own home, the insatiable demand for petroleum leads to unnatural disasters in the ocean and wars abroad in an endless cycle.
Paraffin: (Elements & Compounds) a white insoluble odourless waxlike solid consisting mainly of alkane hydrocarbons with melting points in the range 50°–60°C, used in candles, waterproof paper, and as a sealing agent. Also called: paraffin (“Paraffin wax - definition of paraffin wax by The Free Dictionary”)
Some major brands work exclusively with paraffin wax which is derived from petroleum, coal or shale oil. There are several studies which point to toxins being released from paraffin wax, but these studies are not peer-reviewed so they need to be read with some skepticism.
We believe cutting out Paraffin prevents any potential harm to the environment, ourselves and our customers. We will not stock or make paraffin based candles.
Soy, Coconut & Beeswax:
Soy Wax: “Soy candles are candles made from soy wax, which is a processed form of soybean oil” (“What EXACTLY is Soy Wax?”)
Soy wax comes from US Soybean Farmers, we pride ourselves in using US-based suppliers and manufacturers as much as possible. Unfortunately things like Jars & Lids come nearly exclusively from China, especially in the current climate with shortages across the globe.
Reviewing the ingredients of one of our major brand competitor’s “soy candle” Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Stearyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Fragrance, Arachidyl Alcohol, Glycerol Oleate, C7-9 Esters of Benzotriazolyl-Dimethylethyl-p-Hydroxybenzenepropanoic Acid, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxycinnamate, Contains Fragrance Allergens.
Our candles are made from 100% soy wax and generally contain around 10% fragrance oil depending on the fragrance. We hope you enjoy our candles for years to come!
